What We Do

Advocacy for Appropriate Technology Development

SIBAT's past advocacy efforts have been primarily directed to promote appropriate technology (AT) through sustainable agriculture and infrastructure support. It aimed to achieve wider adoption of sustainable agriculture farming systems by rural farmers in the mainly due to unfavorable agricultural policies and inappropriate farming practices like the chemical-based agriculture and genetic engineering.

Sibat history

Over the years, SIBAT gained ample wealth of experiences as regards community-based implementation, innovations, and breakthroughs in research and development in sustainable agriculture, water resource development, and renewable energy. These have provided sufficient template references in developing strategies and approaches in implementing AT in the communities.

SIBAT's advocacy work then is anchored on these successful experiences that are ground-tested and proven. This is where the drafting of alternative policy framework, positions on issues and alternative actions are also contextualized.

These efforts are actualized through SIBAT-organized conferences, fora, technical discussions, policy studies, research and case documentation project collaborations, trade fairs, exhibits and publications.

While focused on this primary advocacy track, SIBAT participated also in campaign issues closely related to its advocacy agenda. It is a co-convenor of several multi-sectoral alliances premised on relevant advocacy platforms like the NO2GMO Coalition, or NCORES which as an active policy/lobby group for renewable energy promotion.

SIBAT is also an active partner of RESIST, a formation against pesticides, chemicals and genetic modification of organisms in agriculture; a member of the Philippine Network on Climate Change Network (PNCC) and Philippine Climate Change Watch Alliance (PCCWA). It is also a convenor of the environment sub-cluster of the Philippine Misereor Partners (PMP), and active member of the EED-Task Force on Indigenous Peoples and the EED-Luzon Good Governance Task Force.
