IGES Rep Visits Lamag Wind Project

Ms. Kikosawa's visit is the first in a 3-series of project monitoring and documentation by the Asia Pacific Forum for Environment and Development (APFED) for the installation of a second small wind project turbine (SWT) installation in the community. The first SWT installed is a 500 watt system and provides lighting for the local church and rectory while the new installation shall provide local residents with cheaper electricity through a battery charging facility harnessing the favorable wind regime in the area.

More importantly, the project phase 2 is envisioned to spur economic activity with the provision of a sugarcane juice extractor or presser as a SWT application. Lamag grows sugarcane as a second crop and selling its by-products like muscovado, wine and vinegar as a source of extra cash in the community.
